Graphicaudio and DC Comics

Last week I was startled by the amount of people that, upon reading my interview on BRANDO, decided to contact me…

Incredibly enough their inquires were not limited to such subject as Calorie intake, diet tips or running facts… I was happily surprised by the fact that most were drawn to the fact that, Audiobooks were my “joie de vivre” during my long exercises.

A great deal of these questions were directed to the subject that I had “read” (Notice how I encapsulate that last word within quotes), the comic FINAL CRISIS while I ran.

For those of you who are unaware of what exactly is FINAL CRISIS ,here is a short description: Just as the name suggest “FINAL” CRISIS is the last, in a series, of earth shattering, multi-universe spanning, mind boggling epics of the DC UNIVERSE…

DC UNIVERSE ?

Here is a fast and short cliff note on the two main companies that, in one way or another, compromise a large portion of the comic book market… in one corner we have the DC UNIVERSE with such heroes as BATMAN, SUPERMAN, FLASH, WONDER WOMAN, GREEN LANTERN, and the often revolving JUSTICE LEAQUE rooster… and in the parallel corner of the ring, as a direct competition, we have SPIDERMAN, IRON MAN, CAPTAIN AMERICA, THORS, PUNISHER giving weight and strength to the MARVEL UNIVERSE… some times they have intercompany crossovers, but all in all, they like to keep to themselves and remain at a distance.

Starting in 1985, as a way of re launching the company and giving it a fresh look, the DC UNIVERSE decided to congeal all its companies, and myriad worlds, and diverging timelines (that in themselves had become a twisted barely logical and readable affaire) into one world (Earth 1) for this they created, the now classic villain The ANTI-MONITOR, and devised their first of many CRISIS (this would be the label by which such events would be known from that moment on)… this events would be, in many was, a “a hail Mary pass”. They could be used to rewrite histories, kill off characters that had become dull, and finalize storylines that had grown stale… or to simplify its stories and draw in new readers.

But for all the critiques they could harbor, one thing that would constantly remain true, was the fact that they were EPIC…

As such once every few years, mostly when the company would employ fresh blood (new talent)… they would spawn some new treat and give their artist free reign with their characters… When such EVENTS happened “all bets were off”

An emerging company known as GRAPHICAUDIO… decide in 2006 to form an alliance with DC and began producing, what in essence are, audiobooks based on comics… yet they decided to take a whole new approach to this media… they decided to be true to their slogan (A MOVIE IN YOUR MIND) and revolutionized the whole adaptation… they ended up producing elaborate, revolutionary and highly entertaining RADIO DRAMAS… with a surprising amount of original music, believable FX, and cast, that in certain PLAYS/BOOKS, would surpass the two dozens.

As of now they have a veritable library of DC productions, some featuring just one character, while others the whole of the Justice League… but in all likely hood, their crown achievement (and for me the ones that are indispensable to a true fan) would be their CRISIS series… featuring such writers as GEOF JOHNS, GRAND MORRISON, BRAD MELTZER, GRECK RUCKA, and many more.

To truly appreciate this experience it is imperative that you should enjoy the saga in the chronological order that it was written: CRISIS OF INFINITE EARTHS, INFINITE CRISIS, 52, COUNTDOWN AND FINAL CRISIS.
