Hello everybody, today I have decided to change the beat. For the last couple of days, I have been posting rather simple, although meaningful, articles. As such I have decided that for today and at least once a week I will give “bullet points” about the organization “Médecins Sans Frontières”, or as it is most commonly know: “Doctors Without Borders” (MSF).
This is a full-blown organization, that has been in the thick of it, from the first day of its inception, a humanitarian mission devised and created by French journalist and their counterparts in the medical community. It was established in 1971, and has been relentless in its pursuit of its ideals.
As of today it provides help to more than 60 countries. Venturing into regions that have been torn asunder by violence, strife, war, disease, epidemics, malnutrition, natural disaster… and frankly any horror that besieges humankind.
On many occasions it has chosen the right to speak against any power that abuses its authority, drawn light on situations that have escaped to publics eye, and fought to improve medical treatment and protocols.
MSF, is a completely neutral organization, it those not respond to any political, religious, or racial agenda… it operates independently, as such it works on principals of medical ethics and impartiality.
In 1999 MSF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
In the past month MSF has:
- Created a partnership with Zip Zap Circus School in South Africa and helped children from Khayelitsha township and Cape Town who are living with HIV.
- It continues with hard labors in Haiti fighting the spread of cholera, and preparing for the rainy season.
- Its action’s in Sudan include the treatment of the wounded in Agok, and the donation of drugs and equipment to a hospital in the town of Abyei.
- In Libya and in the Ivory Coast, Msf seeks to assist refugees and internally displaced people fleeing escalating violence.
In this very instance, while you are reading this note, MSF is in the most inhospitable corners of the earth giving a helping hand.
